Kita melihat bahwa kata-kata yang dicetak tebal diatas disebut uncountable noun (kata benda yang tida dapat dihitung ). Artinya,

Kita tidak dapat menggunakan a,an,the,one,two,three.four,five, etc + kata benda yang tidak dapat dihitung (uncountable nouns) karena kita tidak dapat menghitung benda tersebut. Uncountable nouns ini tidak dapat di dahului oleh a, an, the, two, three, four, five, dll.

Misalnya : a money, an information, an advice, three salt, five air, an anger, a happiness, dll.

Uncountable nouns tidak memiliki bentuk jamak (plural) jadi tanpa akhiran –s sebagaimana tercantum dalam tabel berikut.

Namun demikian, kata benda tak dapat dihitung (uncountable nouns) dalam tabel diatas dapat didahului oleh kata-kata seperti a piece of (secarik), a glass of (segelas), a can of (sekaleng), a bar of (sepotong), a cup of (secangkir), a sponful of (sesendok), a loaf of (sepotong), a hand of (segenggam/sesisir), a bottle of (sebotol), didepannya, misalnya:

Education is for all

Dita has a lot of information

Ifti drinks a cup of coffee twice a day

Risman drinks a glass of water

Amira needs a piece of paper

Yusuf needs much money

Just a can of milk

Yuti is cutting a bar of meat

Pass me a loaf of bread

Yusuf bought a bottle of coca-cola

You can add a sponful of sugar

Kata benda yang dapat dihitung (caountable nouns) dan kata benda yang tidak dapat dihitung (uncountable nouns) bisa memiliki bentuk yang sama, tetapi artinya beda, misalnya terdapat dalam tabel dibawah ini:
